Happy Blogiversary!

Hear ye, hear ye, one year ago today marks the birth of daffodils&dishwater! Happy 1st Anniversary d&d!

I can’t believe that I have kept up with writing this blog for a full year, but more than that I can’t believe that people actually read it. I mean really, this place is my dumping grounds. It’s a pig sty for crying out loud. It’s where all the silly and inane things about my personality run free and all of my cockamamy stories and adventures come to life in the most unsubtle of ways.

As I was preparing to start this blog, I found that two things were paramount to it’s success. One, the name and two, the content. Make the name unique yet descriptive and pick a topic you are passionate about and that you have experience with, otherwise you’re likely to run out of ideas for posts and the blog will be DOA.

Makes sense enough, but yet I had quite a struggle trying to create a blog theme. I just wanted to write but had nothing in particular to impart and this was keeping me from advancing the project. After a while, I decided that despite having no cohesive or sensical message I would just write about whatever.

Nothing. Everything. Nonchalance. I am really good at nonchalance. And yet I’m not. This duality was going to be my bread and butter.

But how do I name that? What kind of blog title would encapsulate all of that but also not scare people away?

I brainstormed, “My blog will be about everything,” pause, think, pause, think, “Everything but the kitchen sink.”

Ohhhh, I liked that phrase! It was too obvious for my blog title and probably already in use, but I liked the idea behind it.

So I got to thinking about the kitchen sink and how its filled with dirty dishwater but from that comes squeaky clean dishes. That’s sort of how life is, sometimes dirty and sometimes clean. Sometimes silly and sometimes serious. And that’s how my blog would be, like dirty dishwater but also like whatever the opposite of that is … sometimes it would be like … pretty flowers. Like daffodils. My blog would be like daffodils&dishwater. And everything in between.

And thus d&d was born. Without agenda or intent, d&d has made it through a whole year and I have all of you to thank for that! Which, unfortunately for you, means you are weird as I am!

Cheers!
